Baby Talk Info & Intel: Saratoga – Race 6 – Thursday, July 10, 2025
A full batch of 14 have passed through the entry box for this five and a half furlong dash on the grass; however, only 10 will make it into the starting gate. Nine of these fillies will be making their debut, and one has been out on two previous occasions. The main field has some first-class sires, including Too Darn Hot, Twirling Candy, War Front, American Pharoah, Medaglia d’Oro, and Not This Time. This should be an excellent contest, so let’s jump right in…
#5 Sadie Earp (8/1) – One of two runners in this event from Wes Ward (5/42, 11.9%), this filly is sired by Tiz the Law (17.5%). Mama, by Not Bourbon, was a fine racer with four wins coming in only eight career starts with earnings of $192K. She’s tossed five other foals of racing age, and two of them were successful as babies; one scored in their DMR debutant performance, and the other visited the Winner’s Circle at KEE in their second try. $180K was the winning bid for this gal last year when she was a yearling (7/105). Ward worked her once at Keeneland before shipping her to upstate NY for three more works (15 furlongs), with her most recent coming over the training turf track. Her clockings have been reasonable, but not typical ‘Ward Fast’.
#6 Aporia (4/1) – Miguel Clement (the Christope Clement barn = 10/54, 18.5%) will send out this filly by War Front (18.5%). Her dam was winless on the track in seven tries, but she’s been a dynamo in the breeding shed. From five foals of racing age, she’s produced four 2YO MSW winners, including one that won at second asking at Saratoga and then went to Woodbine that year and scored in a Grade 1 event. Another that won at first asking at WO and one that was victorious in their second start at two, coming in third in three G3s as a juvenile, before going on later in their career to win a G2 and two G3s. Lastly, one of her offspring won during their two-year-old campaign in their third start at Woodbine, and later won two G2s in their career. The vast majority of this success has been on the turf. Today’s runner hammered for $300K as a yearling (2/14). She’s logged five works here over the dirt on the Oklahoma oval (19 furlongs), but her times have been modest.
#7 Gracie’s Delight (3/1) – The other Ward (5/42, 11.9%) filly is the ML favorite and is a For The People Racing Stable homebred by American Pharoah (11.1%) and is a full sis to a baby race winner last spring at Keeneland. Mom scored only once in 11 tries, but that was as a juvenile in her fourth attempt at Kentucky Downs. She has a total of two other foals for racing age. Today’s competitor has been out twice; once on 4/23/25 at Keeneland when she motored quickly to the lead and held it into the stretch before getting caught and tiring as the even-money favorite. Then, on 6/8/25 over 5.5f on the dirt here at SAR, she had an awkward start, still made the lead, but failed to hold and had to settle for the runner-up money. She’s fit in one 4f maintenance work on the Oklahoma turf since her last afternoon run.
My Pick – There are some fine babies in this affair, but I’m excited about #6 Aporia - she’s my pick. Her half-siblings are absolutely off the chart, War Front ain’t swiss cheese, especially with babies on the turf, and the Clement barn knows how to get juvies to run. Add Prat in the irons? Sign me up. More tomorrow…
